Moving Through | 23 Oct – 6 Nov 2021
We are delighted to announce a major solo exhibition by Fitzgerald. The exhibition will showcase his new sculptures and paintings.
Friday, 22 Oct 5.30 pm to 8.30 pm | Official opening at 7.30 pm. To be invited to the preview, contact us here.
This exhibition brings together over 20 years of painting experience by Fitzgerald in the field of equine. These new works explore the use of light and dark against the form. Fitzgerald extends his colour pallet in paint by using indigo, violet and burnt sienna to create striking composite images.
Drawing on his memory arising from subject matters in his paintings, he has produced viscerally evocative sculptures. Fitzgerald’s bronze works are all produced by using the lost wax process at the Cast Foundry, Dublin.
‘My great hope for my work is that it makes people experience a truly special feeling that only they can explain. I hope that they experience a sense of what I feel when I paint each piece. These feelings and emotions can’t be expressed in words, as it’s on such a deeper level. To be able to paint is a privilege, to be able to paint the horse is a blessing that I’m privileged to share‘ – John Fitzgerald
John Fitzgerald was born and lives in Co Meath, Ireland. He is a graduate of Industrial Design in Letterkenny Institue of Technolgy (1996) & Swansea University, UK (1997). He also holds a Diploma in Antiques and Fine Art from IPAV. It was while in college that he developed a strong understanding of drawing & design and the different techniques used in completing a piece from initial concept sketches, observation and studying 3-dimensional form.
He has established himself as one of Ireland’s leading contemporary Equine, Sporting and Portrait Artist. He continues to garner prestigious commissions from private clients and companies, commonly from many of the leading horse owners, trainers and jockey’s (e.g. portraits of Lester Piggot and 20 times champion A.P.Mc Coy).
